Top 7 Products on the Market produced by 4 Brands
Remo Kid Drums
Let’s start with the versatile Remo drums. They are suitable for everyone from newborns to adults! Toddlers especially LOVE them. Put 3 or 4 different drums together, like a Floor Tom, a Djembe or a Bongo, a Gathering Drum and a Tubano and your kids will have hours of drumming fun! Whether I use them for rhythm therapy with disabled children (who often bang on them with incredible force) or in a kids’ drumming circle, these drums always brighten up the room with their awesome sound.
Bongos
The Big Advantage Every Remo Kid Drum has a great individual sound, and a few different drums put together yield a fantastic sounding drum set, whether you play them with hands or mallets. They are built to be played on the floor. When toddlers put their hands on the drum for the first time, it will sound great. You can play them together, which helps develop the parent-child relationship in a positive way, as well as improving the communication skills of your child.
Toddlers can move around, they do not have to sit still in any one spot. They love to make music with their whole body, and they will learn the banging motions while moving and dancing. So they can feel free to embrace their own individual style of music making. Toddlers can train their ears by arranging and rearranging the drums while drumming. They love to carry and swap drums and mallets.
Konga
Toddlers love to climb on things. The Floor Tom and the Gathering Drum are perfectly suited for them (they can easily withstand my 176 lbs!) They have an astonishing durability, you would have to slam a sharp object against the skin to damage the drum (but please don’t). Remo Kid Drums are very easy to handle and to clean. You do not have to assemble a set or tighten any loose screws. Just put the drums on the floor and you’re ready to go. No danger of your kids hurting themselves on any metal frames or screws, because there aren’t any.
You can make your individual compilation of drums, and extend your set at any time you like. IMPORTANT to a long Remo Kid Drum life: Do not store the drums at a temperature higher than 22 degrees, and do not place them on a heated floor or near a heater. Don’t leave them in a car on a sunny day. Doing any of these things will greatly diminish the quality of their sound and tune. And please note: these drums are not tuneable.
Floor Tom
Caxixi and Seed Rattles
These natural rhythm instruments are a great addition to the drum above, as they cover the high frequencies. Toddlers will explore another form of movement to make the Caxixi sound. There are lots of hard-covered shakers out there, none of which I would recommend for toddlers in the first place simply due to the risk of young kids hurting themselves and others. Caxixi and Seed Rattles have a great sound and won’t hurt anyone. Please note: Using Caxixi as drum mallets will damage the rattles over time.
Mendini Drum Set
Want to combine Fun and Quality? Yes, you can do this with the Mendini Set. Much smaller than a normal drum set (16 x 15.5 x 15.2 inches only!) but it produces a great sound for its small size. Very durable due to the hardware, which is not bad. Assembly is very simple. Comes with stool. I absolutely recommend this set! Toddlers and little kids can form their first sounds and rhythms on it. Pupils will need a “real drum set” to practice on for drum lessons, so I’d recommend this one more for 1- to 6-year-olds.
A colleague of mine purchased it for his 3-year-old daughter a few years back. Even her 8-year-old brother had fun playing on it. The parents are pleased with the durability. Another advantage is that it’s not as loud as a normal drum set, so you won´t have any noise-problems when the door is closed. I can’t tell you as much about the following three musical instruments and toys because I have not yet experienced them for myself.
Nevertheless I thought it made sense to give these three drum sets a mention. According to the reviews I’ve read, they are outstanding in durability and provide many hours of playing and learning fun.
HAPE Early Melodies Rock and Rhythm Band
This high quality wooden drumset, designed and manufactured by Hape (pronounced hah-pay) is well constructed and easy to assemble, so toddlers can start playing instantly. The cymbal can sound rather loud when your kid bangs on it. Tip: tape a little piece of a napkin or hanky to the back of the cymbal. Here you will also find out what you can do effectively to reduce strenuous high (cymbal) frequencies, as well as general drumming noise.
Although Hape recommends this drum set for children aged 3 to 6, I can tell you that my 15-month-old nephew LOVES it. He spends hours with that cute toy, with a big smile on his face! 16” x 16” x 19”, 2.5 lbs
Plan Toys Preschool Musical Band
Six-month-olds to 5-year-olds will love banging this 14” super small drum set, which is a high quality built musical toy of stable construction. Kid-friendly usage. Toddlers can move around and play it while standing, running, sitting, lying or crawling. When the cymbal is beaten very hard, it can fall off easily (only held by a string through the cymbal support which is a wooden tube). That will help your child to learn to temper his banging, and the cymbal support can easily be glued to the set.
Please note that this drum set is quite small: 13.8” x 7.4” x 12”. 2 lbs. The sound is not bad for its size, and toddlers can carry it around easily.
Winfun Kids Fun Electronic Drum Set
This is a great rhythm learning tool for 2- to – 5-year-old kids which they can play solo or to the music, develop their first rhythms and have fun singing with the headset microphone. This toy drum set has much more durability than most of the other electronic toy drum stuff out there. Pushing or beating the light colored buttons will produce more of a tinker toy sound than a normal drum sound. Singing and drumming along to music is also an option via plug-in device.
The little ones can carry it around (removing it from the stand is simple) and easily push all the buttons. Simply put: It is a toy, and what I have read from many reviews, absolutely worth the money. 3 AA batteries required.23.2” x 12.6” x 23.6” 6.3 lbs
